Cinc Sentits Restaurant, Barcelona

Having been seated at 1.30 pm sharp at a table in the little restaurant, our waiter coolly unfolds before our eyes a linen napkin on which the restaurant's philosophy is printed and proceeds to patiently explain the choice of the three menus on offer. We went for the seven-course menu named "Sensacions," having finally gotten used to Barcelona's meal times and knowing better than to expect dinner before 22:00 CET. For starters, we had a plate of three different tapas sent courtesy of the kitchen. We thought the maple-syrup shot with Cava-Sabayon and sea salt delicious. The same goes for the king prawn with carrot and licorice as well as the caramelised goose liver with leek. The next course was young wild-caught Bonito-tuna served on a bed of smoked eggplant accompanied by a pepper sherbet – an entirely convincing sensory experience. As a main course, fried scallops with glazed onions on a bed of puréed Jerusalem artichokes. Each course is a fresh surprise and leaves a lasting impression. Nothing, though, could beat the chocolate variations we had as for a grand finale. We were quite impressed to find that Jordi Artal's cuisine is as aesthetic as it is sensual. This is a must-do for any gourmet eager to discover the new Catalonian cuisine. Closed on: Sundays and Mondays

It's all in the name – an intoxicating culinary experience for all five senses. It is the express purpose of Jordi Artal's clever creations to taste good. Each dish contains a surprise that will catch you off guard. Wow!
For those from northern climates, the restaurant's air conditioning is a bit on the chilly side. It makes you feel as if you were in New York rather than in Barcelona.
