7132 Hotel Hotel, Vals

The village of Vals in the mountains of Grisons is home to one of Switzerland’s most inspirational hotel ensembles in architectural terms. Borrowed from the hamlet’s postcode, the hotel’s name symbolises a very special tourist concept that places a premium on preserving the originality and exclusivity of the offer in Vals in all of its activities. In order to adjust the new 7132 Hotel after its complete structural alteration to the architectural concept of the thermal baths designed by Peter Zumthor, several other renowned architects were invited to Vals to let their creative imagination roam free. In the House of Architects, which lies next to the main building of the 7132 Hotel, no less than four of them - Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, Thom Mayne and Peter Zumthor - were asked to flesh out their visions. As a result, each room is an aesthetic treat for design aficionados, and the architectural theme runs like a thread through the entire hotel ensemble. Boiling things down to their essence, and investing each piece of furnishing with the spirit of the whole. This is precisely what 7132 Hotel aspired to when it reopened in 2017, welcoming its guests with a clear-cut modern design. Quite in line with the architecture, the way of life here is young and chic.

The thermal baths make you feel like an explorer discovering a mysterious world of stone and water. Even urbanites who are hard to impress tend to be filled with awe when entering the monolithic building by Peter Zumthor that consists of 60,000 slabs of Vals quartzite.
The thermal baths are quite an attraction and accessible even to outside guests, so that the place can get a bit busy on rainy weekends. The advantage for hotel guests: Between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. the thermal baths are reserved exclusively for them, the same being true on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights between 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
