Restaurant Stucki Restaurant, Basel

"Happiness is your senses showing gratitude" reads the dedication Tanja Grandits wrote into her cook book before handing it to us. Since 2008, the vivacious chef has cooked at the "Stucki" with its rich tradition. She now occupies the position once held by the great Hans Stucki. The refurbishment has brought a fresh breeze not just to the establishment as such, but to the kitchen, too. Tanja Grandits presents accomplished compositions of seeming opposites, sautéing the Loup de Mer with ajowan caraway, and serving it with cream of corn and grapefruit salsa. It is all about flavours and spices that interact with each other without competing for the lead role on your plate. Whether you take the anisette-marinated salmon trout with lime blinis, or red mullets with rose couscous and salsa rosa – the "grande dame" of aromatic cooking has kept stunning us time and again with cheeky but well-conceived gustatory supernovas, as well as with her bubbly disposition. Closed on: Sundays and Mondays
Price range €€€
The store inside the former "Stucki" garage is a boon for hobby chefs like us: You may now finally take Tanja Grandit's unique culinary compositions home with you, including things like fig-lavender chutney, salted caramel / vanilla butter, and tomato star-aniseed jam.
The location – well off the beaten track! From the historic town centre of Basel it is 5 km to Stucki's.
