Individual ratings for Osteria di Passignano

Location
The abbey Badia a Passignano cuts an imposing figure in the lonesome landscape of the Chianti, 4 km above the village of Sambuca Val di Pesa.
Ambience
The vaulted basement presents itself in a rustic but genteel style. The tables are elegantly laid.
Infrastructure
The restaurant consists of three interconnected rooms, a wine store, and a cooking academy.
Culinary
Bread baked on the premises, home-made olive oil, and wine from the family vineyard are the mainstays of this culinary philosophy. Only high-end regional produce are used in the kitchen. Do not miss out on the fluffly "gnocchetti", dove on eggplant, tomato and mint, or the "Crostata ai agrumi" – little tarts filled with ricotta mousse and citrus.
Wine List
Brace yourself for a stunning wine list of 550 vintages. The Super-Tuscans Tignanello, Guado al Tasso and Solaia of the Antinori dynasty of vintners can be ordered by the glass.
Service
The staff under the guidance of Marcello Crini is friendly, competent, and swift.

Osteria di Passignano Restaurant, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa

Even the trip there is delightful. Meandering through the heart of the Chianti region, the road will take you through the vineyards up to the medieval abbey of Passignano. The monastery church combines with the cypress trees and vineyards into a total art work. Here, the Antinori family produces the eponymous wine, stored in amazing monastery vaults. The vineyard where the grapes for their Super-Tuscan Tignanello are grown is just three kilometres away from the abbey. Right next to the monastery church, the family operates the high-end restaurant Osteria die Passignano, which has borne the accolade of one Michelin star since 2007. The restaurant is accessed through the wine store, which also hosts wine tastings and sells the Antinori wines, whereas creative cuisine is being celebrated in the rooms beyond. Closed on: Sundays
Price range €€
Olive oil and wine are at the centre of everything. The chef, Matia Barciulli, loves to refine his dishes with choicest olive oil. For instance, his olive oil frozen yoghurt is simply divine, and so is the Super-Tuscan Solaia.
There is no need to look for a patio as the vaulted cellar is used for dining.
