Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco Hotel, Montalcino

Extraordinary hotels are built by extraordinary people. Massimo Ferragamo, the youngest son of Salvatore Ferragamo, was actually looking for a small property for his family and friends when the 1800 hectares country estate Castiglion del Bosco was offered to him – a heart-achingly beautiful piece of land with its own vineyards. After several years of redevelopment, the hamlet with its 23 suites from the 17th and 18th century was restored to its erstwhile charm, surrounded by a ruined castle, cypresses, 9 ochre-coloured villas and a private 18-hole golf course. The 5-star resort is a paradise that was opened in 2011 to well-appointed hotel guests who are out for a truly special experience. The natural environment plays a key role in this place, and makes you feel like in an exclusive country club.

If you're a golfer, your heart will skip a beat here. Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the 18-hole championship course is the most exclusive one in Tuscany. A private course, its use is restricted to members and hotel guests. Not having to abide by tee times will make you feel truly privileged.
While dirt roads (“strade bianche”) are part of Tuscany’s UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, they can make your drive to the resort a bit adventurous with their many potholes. You might want to pick something more suitable than a sports car for your trip.
