Ristorante Andrea Restaurant, Palazzolo Acreide

In the hinterland of Syracuse lies the enchanting baroque town of Palazzolo Acreide with its countless opulent palazzi. In their midst, on the first floor of a residential building from the 19th century, Andrea Alì does his cooking. His slow-food cuisine is traditional Sicilian fare with a modern twist. He subscribes to the philosophy of "buy local," using only seasonal produce from the region. The town is renowned for its sausage and cheese specialities, as well as for its honey with its signature taste of thyme. The chef is particularly fond of the latter, and consistently uses honey instead of sugar in all of his oeuvres, even to sweeten his "caponata." And he is right to do so, because this is the most memorable caponata in terms of taste and texture that we sampled anywhere on Sicily. Now that the Italian media have discovered him, Andrea Alì is no longer just a gifted backwoods chef. After various appearances on the "Rai Uno" channel, the restaurant began to attract gourmets from all over the island. Be sure to make advance reservations! Closed on: Tuesdays
Price range
Everything is made on location, from the fresh-baked bread, to the pasta and "sugo," and all the way to the "dolci." We just love the sophisticated slow-food cuisines of Andrea Alì.
Lovers of seafood and vegetarians may be disappointed because the menu lists mostly meat dishes.
