Individual ratings for Il Sanlorenzo

Location
Located on a quiet side street, not far from Palazzo Farnese.
Ambience
Tall brick vaults and modern art on the walls, representing the leading figures of the Roman San Lorenzo school – including Veronica Botticelli, Piero Pizzi Cannella, Oliviero Rainaldi and Marco Tirelli – lend such a naturally harmonious spirit to the place that it makes you want to stay for good.
Infrastructure
The restaurant subdivides into three elegant rooms, one of them for smokers, featuring a large humidor. The wine cellar is also open to private use. The larger room in the basement offers space for small parties of up to 12 people. There is a small patio out front for the sunny time of year.
Culinary
Outstanding seafood. It just doesn't get any fresher!
Wine List
Elena Pierri's great passion is wine. She built up a truly exciting wine menu with great Italian picks, listing more than 900 vintages.
Service
Professional, very attentive, and competent.

Il Sanlorenzo Restaurant, Roma

"Il faut être leger comme l’oiseau et non comme la plume.“ (You need to be as light as a bird, not as a feather.) This line by Paul Valèry graces the menu at the Il Sanlorenzo. Instead of proceeding straight to the large selection of fish and crustaceans, we muse about the quote by the French writer, and eventually agree on its import: While the nearly weightless feather is tossed about nilly-willy by the storm wind, the bird effortlessly rides out even the gusty winds despite its much greater weight. Having sorted that out, we head for the extremely well-appointed seafood counter in the entrance area. Every day, fresh catch is delivered to owner Enrico Pierry from the celeb island of Ponza south of Rome and from the fish mongers of Civitavecchia, and he presents the day's catch with pride. We start with a yellowtail and are amazed how this rather inconspicuous fish proves a gustatory revelation when combined with veggies. Another culinary sensation is the liaison of swordfish with fresh porcino mushrooms. Our favourite: Go for the "Poor Fish Menu," and you will experience one surprise after another. Closed on: All day Sundays, and lunch hours on Saturdays and Mondays.

The fare is pleasure to look at, and a pleasure to eat. The artfully arranged anchovis with burrata and green pepper strips are not just delicious but remindful of a woven Bottega Veneta purse.
Not the best place for carnivores! Nothing but fish and seafood are served here.
