Individual ratings for Il Pagliaccio

Location
In Rome's historic town centre, in the immediate vicinity of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.
Ambience
At first glance, the restaurant with its matte-painted shop front looks like a store. The bell on the door lends an exclusive touch to the place, and communicates discreetly that it is open to patrons with reservations only. "Il Pagliaccio" is a straightforward culinary production.
Infrastructure
A modern restaurant with star accolade: Elegant designer chairs, a harmonic lighting concept, sophisticated china and underplates made of slate enter into an accomplished symbiosis with the culinary art.
Culinary
Anthony Genovese's cuisine has been commended with one Michelin star since 2009. There is no à la carte dining in the classic sense. Rather, you choose the number of courses you will want to eat, and brief the staff on any allergy you may have or any food that may not agree with you. Each oeuvre is a homage to the Mediterranean cuisine with an Asian twist. We read the dishes as short scenes in a harmoniously structured stage play. 8-course menu "Il Pagliacchio" at €130.
Wine List
Nothing is impossible here.
Service
Highly competent staff that present each dish with pride.

Il Pagliaccio Restaurant, Roma

Anthony Genovese is a well-travelled culinary artist. Having grown up on the Côte d'Azur, and having trained in London, Tokyo, Malaysia, and Thailand, he eventually returned to his native Italy. He earned his first Michelin star while cooking at the "Palazzo Sasso" hotel in Ravello. In 2003, he took the bold step into self-employment as he opened the restaurant "Il Pagliacchio" ("The Clown") in Rome. A picture of a clown, painted by his mother, hangs in the main dining room of the restaurant. Clowns are people who make us laugh. While Anthony's ambition is not to make you laugh, his creations are playful, cheeky and surprising enough to qualify as culinary acrobatics. He loves change, and is impulsive and passionate in his cooking. You can taste it in his dishes. The signature course: oyster with burrata and lychee granita. Topping things off: dove with tofu, coffee, and blackberries. Closed on: Sundays (all day), Mondays and Tuesdays (lunch time)
Price range €€€
Ideal for gourmet who have a hard time making up their minds, and who love to try everything lest they miss out. Here, Maître Gennaro Buono will gladly and competently take the decision out of their hands.
The purist, straightforward interior decoration is not for the romantically minded or traditionalists.
