Trattoria La Coccinella

Passers-by easily overlook the seemingly inconspicuous house located directly on main street. Only the nostalgic mural painting by the entrance refers to the fact that a restaurant is hiding behind the façade. Similarly unobtrusive is the classic interior of the small trattoria, aptly named "ladybird" ("La Coccinella") as far as its modest size goes. The things brought to you from the kitchen, however, are anything but modest, as Massimo spares neither time nor effort. He pays homage to the region by using choicest regional produce. His brothers Alessandro and Tiziano also play an active part in the dining room, patiently elaborating each dish and making very sensible recommendations. The busiest time of year here is between October and the end of the truffle season. During this time, the place is filled with the tantalising scent of Tuber Magnatum Pico, the white truffle growing in Alba. We prefer to have the rare delicacy sliced directly over Massimo's creamy "Fonduta piemontese." It wouldn't be fair, however, to limit our culinary review of the place to truffles. After all, Massimo also prepares the fluffiest gnocchi under the sun! A helping of "Gnocchi di patate ripieni di Castelmagno" is sheer gustatory bliss. We always leave beaming at the Dellaferra brothers like happy ladybirds, promising to be back soon. Closed on: All day Sundays, and Mondays during lunch time
