Individual ratings for Relais San Maurizio

Location
Dating back to the 17th century, the monastery is idyllically located in a majestic hilltop park. The names of certain nearby villages will resonate with wine connoisseurs: Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso.
Ambience
The lavishly restored monastery with its original frescoes, ancient vaults, and cotto floors are an unpretentious place of jouissance and good taste.
Infrastructure
The estate includes a sprawling park with old-growth trees, a heated outdoor pool with panoramic view of the surrounding hillside vineyards, a spa including indoor pool, a hot tub, a steam room, thalasso therapy in the salt grotto, treatment rooms, a gym and quiet patio, a gourmet restaurant, a bistro, a bar, a smoking room, and electric bicycles.
Culinary
The vaulted cellar is rented to the "Guido da Costigliole," a restaurant of long-standing tradition. Luca Zecchin is upholding the legacy of Lidia and Guido Alciati in the kitchen, and has been awarded one Michelin star for his culinary craft. Be sure to try the filled pasties "Plin Agnolotti al tovagliolo," served in a napkin – paying homage to Lidia! His modern creations such as dove with foie gras and cocoa are more than convincing. His son Andrea Alciati has built up an impressive wine cellar with 2,800 vintages.
Rooms
30 bespoke classic rooms and suites, housed in the former monastery and the old mews. 6 new luxury suites "San Luigi" with modern interiors and located in a magnificent vista point location directly by the poolside were added in October 2013.
Service
Friendly, competent, and attentive.

Relais San Maurizio Hotel, Santo Stefano Belbo

For centuries, the only people who got to enjoy the impressive vista you get from the former Cistercian monastery across gently rolling hills and vineyards were the friars living there. Pierdomenico Gallo (the founder of Bank Intesa) acquired the estate in the late 1990s. He spared no expense to have it renovated and converted into a 5-star hotel. Since 2002, well-to-do guests have been coming here not just for the view, but also to get their bearings back in the spa, to pamper their palates with culinary delights, and to spend the night in style. The best rooms are located on the first floor in the main building. Like beads on a string, the friars' former cells line the cloister. The place has a pleasantly subdued atmosphere, and in the historic parlours with their frescoed ceilings encourage you to let your thoughts roam and to find back to your inner self.
Price range €€
A picture-postcard setting without equal! Whether from the lounge chair or from the pool – the meditative 360-degree panoramic view across the gently rolling hills and vineyards will inspire you any time of year.
The hefty admission fee of €50.00 for the salt grotto with its two thalasso therapy pools and Kneipp trail.
