Le Mas de Peint Hotel, Arles

An avenue straight as an arrow and lined by oleander bushes six foot tall will fill you with anticipation for the country hotel of the Bon family. The estate of the Mas de Peint includes 550 hectares of land. Lucille Bon is an architect by trade, and showed amazing finesse when turning the 400 year old manor house into a nobly rustic hideaway in the classic style of the Camargue. Her husband's farmstead next door is stocked with 100 horses, 200 cattle, and all sorts of tempting outdoor activities, including horseback riding among the rice paddies, the traditional branding of young bulls, or bicycling to the salt flats of Giraud and the pristine beaches nearby. If you prefer to take it easy, you may opt for bird watching, or lounging in the shade of an old tree, by the pool, or in the big parlour with its welcoming fireplace. In any case, there is plenty of space here.

Life on a wildly romantic country estate! The Bon family makes its living by breeding cattle and horses, and operates the small but splendid country hotel Le Mas de Peint on the side. There is nothing no more beautiful than exploring the vast estate on the back of a Camargue horse.
Mosquitoes are very much part of being in the Camargue – as are white horses, pink flamingoes, and black bulls. The mosquito season is July and August. While nets are draped over everything, you will not escape them altogether.
