Individual ratings for La Bastide de Marie

Location
Located in the picturesque Luberon Vallery, below the village of Ménerbes, and set into the estate's proprietary vineyard.
Ambience
Bright-blue window shutters, sand-coloured stone, vines and cypresses – far as the eye can see. Indoors, you will find an enchanting mix of intoxicating country cottage splendour and unpretentious luxury.
Infrastructure
Restaurant, hearth room doubling as library, two outdoor pools (one of them heated), idyllic garden, proprietary vineyard, small spa with two treatment rooms, complimentary use of bicycles.
Culinary
Tempting breakfast buffet with regional specialities. Afternoon tea and an hors d'oeuvre buffet of nibbles and drinks are offered courtesy of the hotel. Go for the half-board rate – the great Provençal cuisine is well worth it. House wines of the Domaine de Marie estate, mineral water and coffee are included in the price.
Rooms
14 lovingly decorated rooms and suites, as well as a caravan in the garden. Each room is different. You will look in vain for numbers on the rooms, because they are named after flowers or earthy colours such as "Anis Vert," "Blanc d' Ivoire," "Miel d' Oranger," "Vert Tilleul"... The nostalgic bathrooms are stocked with the fine care products of the "Pure Altitude" series made by the parent company "Fermes de Marie." Complimentary WiFi.
Service
Cordial and casually relaxed. Mireille Baud and her team are fully committed to the wellbeing of their guests.

La Bastide de Marie Hotel, Ménerbes

Following the success of Peter Mayle's best-selling novel "A Year in Provence," the village Ménerbes that sets the scene for it has attained celebrity status. Just two kilometres from the village centre lies Bastide de Marie – set scenically amidst the estate's own vineyard. Well away from Provence trinkets such as lavender pouches and colourful pottery sits this 18th century farmhouse that was turned into a country hotel of tranquil luxury. All of the rooms have been made over in impeccable style with the unerring touch of Jocelyne Sibuet: restored antiques, Empire sofas, ancient hearths, linen, rare accessories, and a pleasant scent throughout the rooms complete the rustic finesse of the place. Each of the 15 guest rooms is one of a kind. Reception and service are amicable and nonchalant – without a trace of arrogance. Once you have unpacked and settled in, you will be loath to leave. Perfect for romantics, families and fans of British writer Peter Mayle.
Price range €€
The weather plays a negligible role here. On sunny days, there is the lush garden with its two pools to tempt you; and on rainy days, you may hole up in the library with its enormous fireplace and its insanely cosy ambience.
Depending on which way the wind blows, traffic noise from the nearby highway can be a nuisance. If absolute silence is what you are after, be sure to book a room on the "good" side – overlooking the vineyard.
