Individual ratings for Auberge de l'Ill

Location
Located halfway between Colmar and Sélestat right on the river bank of the Ill, embedded in a well-groomed garden.
Ambience
The rooms are stylishly decorated by Parisian designer Patrick Jouin. The main room is decorated in earthy colours, and the wall-to-wall carpet represents a satellite image of Alsace. The glass curtains in the room on the right side of the entrance reflect the candle light, the third room is decorated with lots of wood.
Infrastructure
The restaurant divides into three tastefully decorated guest rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows which seem to bring the opulent garden right into the restaurant. The picturesque terrace and the "Red Salon" featuring the Haeberlin family story as well as original art by Renoir and Ungerer on the walls are two unique places where to get in the mood for dinner at the "Auberge de l'Ill".
Culinary

Traditional French cuisine without frills, bearing the accolade of two Michelin stars. Here, you will also find large pieces of meat on the menu, including the veal cutlet "Côte de veau poêlée au beurre poivré" and the pig foot "Pied de Porc farci truffé."

Wine List
An exciting French wine list focusing on regional grapes, put together by head sommelier Serge Dubs, who is one of the finest in his trade, and incumbent president of the French sommelier association. You can put blind faith in his recommendations.
Service
Waiters doing their classic dance: friendly, attentive, and competent.

Auberge de l'Ill Restaurant, Illhaeusern

Since 1967, three Michelin stars have sparkled without cease above the Auberge de l'Ill. Like no one else, Paul Haeberlin has defined the Alsatian culinary landscape. In 1976, he handed things over to his son Marc but proceeded to cook for another 31 years alongside his son. To this day, the menu lists the big classics of the late master (who passed away in 2008), including "Mousseline of frog legs," lobster "Prince Vladimir," and poached peach à la Paul Haeberlin. These are dishes cooked with plenty of butter and cream, and are rather heavy fare but tastewise a revelation. We were enchanted to see how timeless these great dishes are. Marc Haeberlin cultivates the regional Alsatian cuisine with a lighter note. He skilfully combines its rural components with elegance as well as its simplicity with finesse. Be sure to try his declination of langustine and the "Mac Marc" with porcini mushrooms and duck liver, and you'll understand and probably share our enthusiasm. Closed on: Mondays and Tuesdays

An experience for the entire sensory spectrum. This hot spot of French gastronomy is a must-do for any serious gourmet.
Did you know that there are more tables here than there are rooms in the Hotel des Berges next door? Be sure to plan your weekend far in advance.
