Tim Raue Restaurant, Berlin

Tim Raue is a true native of Berlin, having been raised in Kreuzberg district and learned his trade locally. Step by step, he worked his way up to become one of Germany's finest chefs. Eventually, he became a TV chef popular even outside Germany. In fall 2010, he and his wife Marie-Anne opened their first restaurant, called "Tim Raue." Its menu is inspired by Asian cuisine. His decidedly light fare does wholly without carbohydrates as well as without white sugar and gluten. Moreover, he exclusively uses lactose-free dairy products. A classic must-try dish is the wok-baked Norway lobster, served with Wasabi mayonnaise. Even the ambience of the loft-like dining room is inspired by Asian influences. Comfortably seated in a blue or lilac armchair, a re-interpretation of the Eames Chair by Vitra, you can watch the goings-on in the kitchen or the busy street scene on Rudi-Dutschke-Strasse in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. Closed on: Sundays and Mondays
Price range €€€
Culinary innovativeness at work: Tim Raue has dispensed with side dishes such as bread, rice or pasta. We would have no trouble coming back for more of his light fare several times a week.
The small tables and the tight seating arrangement need some getting used to in a gourmet restaurant.
