Location
At the upper end of the village of Beckenried, a small lakeside community on the south shore of Lake Lucerne, 20 km from Lucerne.
Ambience
A romantic gem, this hotel emanates cosiness and warmth. A bric-à-brac of keys and countless curios paired with rustic charm create a unique ambience at the "Schlüssel."
Infrastructure
Restaurant spread across three rooms, bar, smoking lounge in the stone cellar, small garden and a store ("Spezereihandlung") selling regional products along with home-made specialities.
Culinary
Daniel Aschwanden is an ardent hunter, and chances are that he is either out hunting or serving up the game he has shot and prepared for his patrons. Don't miss: venison stuffed with rabbit.
Rooms
12 rooms custom-decorated with plenty of charm, objets trouvés from bygone times, and modern amenities. Some of the rooms feature free-standing bathtubs, large walk-in showers, and have a view of Lake Lucerne and the Alps.
Service
The family-run place is managed with great passion and dedication. To the visiting guest, the staff seem to be part of the family, too.

Hardly any urbanite would know anything about the small lakeside community of Beckenried on Lake Lucerne if it was not for the boutique hotel "Schlüssel" – one of a kind in central Switzerland. Far from mass tourism, this quaint inn built in 1727 is an idyllic site of heartfelt hospitality and excellent cuisine. The interior is marked by a sublime elegance. It is always tempting to stay an extra day in this house, whose twelve elegant rooms are decorated in country-cottage style. Hosts Gabrielle and Daniel Aschwanden take an approach of smart understatement, and cultivate a keen aesthetic sensibility and authentic cordiality. You will always be glad to come back here. The thing is, however, that "Schlüssel" has ceased to be an insider tip – for the simple reason that word of mouth travels quickly when it comes to places such as this one. Particularly well suited for romantics and discreet connoisseurs who are able to plan their weekends well ahead of time.

The water here has medicinal properties. All rooms feature nostalgic drinking fountains with local spring water.
The restaurant has long ceased to be an insider tip in the region, and is heavily frequented by locals. So be sure to book table and room well ahead of time.
