Grand Hotel du Lac Hotel, Vevey

Raised in 1868, and roused from an extended beauty sleep by a full-scale conversion in 2006, this Belle-Époque buildings has enchanted not just romantics and Suisse romande fans. Aspirational travellers familiar with hotels belonging to the Canadian luxury hotel group Four Seasons, such as the George V in Paris or the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva, will immediately recognise the creative touch of renowned French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. He dexterously turned the ageing grand hotel into an imaginative 5-star boutique hotel. When strolling through the common areas – from the beguiling "Salon Oriental," via the classic-modern lounge with its massive Murano lights, to the bar, a sort of "camerca obscura" featuring oriental wallpaper and wooden Asian furniture – the plethora of sensory stimuli will be visually intoxicating to anyone. It is no doubt the finest place to stay in Vevey, and one of the most exclusive ones anywhere on Lake Geneva.
Price range €€
The hotel's centrepiece is the Oriental Lounge – which seems to have sprung straight out of 1001 nights.
Vevey is simply too small to justify a stay of more than two or three nights at this hotel.
