Il Pellicano Hotel, Porto Ercole

Make your way to the Monte Argentario peninsula, and it will take you to the next level of relaxation. Things like doing yoga by the seaside in the morning, getting a relaxing massage at the Pelli Club, or taking a dip in the salt water pool with its breathtaking panorama will make you forget time and place. The balmy sea breeze and the spicy scent of rosemary and pines are as enchanting to those in search of a peaceful sanctuary as they are to major and minor celebrities from the Italian fashion industry. The luxurious country cottage above the cliffs actually divides into six villas. The stylish interior decoration in earthy colours bears the handwriting of Marie-Louise Scio, the proprietor's daughter. One gets the impression that everything is still exactly as it was in 1965, when Charlie Chaplin used to spent the summer here at his villa. It is a wonderful place for taking time out. Children are welcome above the age of 10.

Location, seaside, and repose. The lush garden with its retreats and comfortable daybeds seriously encourages contemplative idleness. The nearest town – Porto Ecole – is small and manageable, offering virtually no enticement to leave the unique hotel compound.
Also, the winding coastal road makes it inadvisable to engage in nocturnal escapades.
