This grand hotel has been the paragon of elegance and grandeur in Sicily since 1873. Quite a number of celebrities made the Grand Hotel Timeo their second home during the last century, either to get away from northern European winters or in order to broaden their horizons. Indeed, times seem to have barely changed at all, and you almost expect to see D. H. Lawrence, once a regular here, take his aperitif on the "Literary Terrace." We wouldn't be surprised if German Emperor William II suddenly entered the room. In his day, he used to spend winters in style here. While the complex was refurbished and expanded after its acquisition by the Belmond Group in 2010, there is no need to keep the past artificially alive, because things at the Timeo are pretty much the same they have always been.
