Le Mas de la Rose Hotel, Orgon

This Provençal stone building from the 17th century, where jaded urbanites come for pastoral tranquillity, was once the home of shepherds. Everything here radiates peacefulness, quiet and casual savoir-vivre. Massive beams in the ceiling, terracotta floors, shabby-chic furniture, and a large hearth create a wonderful ambience for snuggling up and staying put. Fabienne Huppert has a knack not only for interior decoration but also for picking her staff. The genial warmth of her crew is irresistible. A frolicsome spirit pervades the entire country cottage. The best thing to do after breakfast is to copy Paulette, the cat in residence, and stroll through the sprawling garden past olive trees, vegetable plots and the chef's herb pots to the pétanque playing area. A game of pétanque chasing the jack (actually called "chochonnet", i.e. the "piglet") will let you forget all about your worldly cares and whet your appetite for the refined fresh-market cuisine of Fabien Taguemount.
Price range
An enchanting garden with many charming little retreats! A person could spend all day by the poolside or in the shade of an olive tree. The garden is nicest in mid-June and thereafter when the lavender field is in full bloom.
The rooms can be quite a surprise – both in a positive and a negative sense.
