Individual ratings for Orania.Berlin

Location

The impressive Art Nouveau building directly overlooks Oranienplatz, a busy square in the creative heart of Kreuzberg. The neighbourhood is well known for its diversified culture and art scene.

Ambience

Dietmar Müller-Elmau is not just the Co-Managing Director of the Orania.Berlin and Proprietor of Schloss Elmau resort in Upper Bavaria, but he also created the hotel’s interior design. Dietmar Müller-Elmau preferred the use of untreated materials and surfaces, red hues and warm light when decorating the hotel. There is a subtle but distinct Indian influence. The silk and linen fabric, for instance, comes from India, and the headboards of the beds feature the same elephant pattern that you will find at Schloss Elmau.

Infrastructure

Restaurant, bar, lounge, library, concert stage, and gym

Culinary

The open-plan kitchen doubles as a meeting spot, and the restaurant feels like a living room. Rather than being a sober hotel restaurant, it is a lively affair where locals and regulars congregate and create a real-life ambience. Philip Vogel, the chef, offers a creative fresh-market cuisine. His peking duck is the stuff of legends.

Rooms

41 elegant rooms and suites, decorated in warm hues and untreated materials. The rooms either overlook the quiet inner courtyard or have a nice view of bustling Oranienplatz.

Service

Nonchalant without being careless, warm and personal. Jennifer and Philipp Vogel and their team are fully committed to the well-being of their guests.

Orania.Berlin Hotel, Berlin

Berlin is a city of contrasts – a wonderful, impulsive metropolis that is always a pleasure to revisit and explore anew. In terms of innovation and creativity, however, the district of Kreuzberg is obviously a hotspot. Here, the most diverse cultures rub shoulders, oriental influences blending with boho chic, and punks coexisting with dandies. The rich blend creates all sorts of new combinations, especially in the fields of art, music and fashion. In the heartland of this vibrant districts lies Oranienplatz, home to the Orania.Berlin, a discretely luxurious boutique hotel that cleverly combines contemporary design with a historical ambience. Not incidentally, it dispenses with everything you would normally associate with hotels. The generously proportioned lobby with its open hearth clearly tells you as you enter: This is not an ordinary hotel, and you are not just another guest. The bar-cum-lounge is a lively gathering place for seeing and being seen, and a venue for major artists. Live performances at the Orania.Stage are open only to jazz, soul, pop and world music artists living in Berlin. The bar with its Steinway concert grand is a trendy local gathering place that will give you the feeling there is always something worth celebrating. The rooms are decidedly spacious and will instantly make you feel at home. The highly motivated team never loses its cool, no matter how busy things get at the hotel.

There is no room service – but the breakfast experience is well worth the trouble of leaving your room. Philipp Vogel and his team serve a high-quality breakfast in a buffet arrangement and offer particularly delicious à-la-carte dishes, including egg dishes and desserts as well as Japanese and Israeli breakfast highlights.
