Grill Royal Restaurant, Berlin

"The Grill" – as locals call it – has stood its ground as a posh celeb restaurant. A motley mix of film stars, politicians, local dignitaries and would-be starlets frequent the grill to celebrate life and themselves. The spacious dining room with its softly upholstered grey seating nooks and red lamps is decorated in the style of the 1960s. There is plenty of art hung on the walls, next to glass-front refrigerators filled to capacity with prime Wagyu and Kobe beef. We sit down at tables decked out in white. Seated at the table next to us is actor Daniel Brühl, while Boris Becker's ex-wife has the table right across. Although the restaurant is packed to the rafters, the staff stays on top of things, take the time to competently help you pick a wine, and treat you to occasional one-liners as the evening progresses. The steaks are sensational, and the crisp sweet potato fries are a must-do. Divine! Opens at 18:00 CET every day.
Price range €€
You will find these the best steaks in town, and see lots of celebrities.
The atmosphere at the grill is always boisterous, and so the noise level is what you would expect. Perfect for a frolicsome evening with friends, but not a good place for a romantic date.
